Our social media accounts provide a place for the University community to share images, videos and discussion related to the University. This community is diverse and includes current students, future students, alumni, and staff amongst others.

Content posted by our community members on these accounts does not necessarily reflect the opinions or ideals of The University of Melbourne, its employees or affiliates. The University of Melbourne does not endorse this material and is not responsible for its accuracy. The University of Melbourne does not necessarily review every item posted by community members to its accounts or from other accounts where it is tagged or mentioned.

Academic Freedom

Academic freedom is a core value of The University of Melbourne. We actively defend the right of academics to offer informed views and opinions in their fields of expertise. This is in accordance with the University’s Academic Freedom of Expression Policy.

We encourage all members of our community to engage in these academic discussions respectfully, and in line with the posting rules outlined below. In order to best represent our entire community and preserve this academic freedom, the University’s social media accounts will typically not take a position on academic discussions.

Posting to a University of Melbourne social media account

When posting please respect the views of other users and be aware that our accounts are accessed by minors. Accordingly, posts and contributions should be suitable for individuals of all ages.

All material posted by users must comply with the relevant service’s Terms of Use. In addition, users may not post any material that is:

Do not post material which advertises or offers to sell any goods or services, or conduct or forward surveys, contests, chain letters, spam or any other unsolicited commercial message. Repeated posting of the same content will result in deletion of all but the original post or comment, whether or not this content is advertising material.

Posting links to essay writing services or other services encouraging academic misconduct will result in an automatic ban with no warning.

We reserve the right to remove, untag and/or report any posts including those that violate these Terms of Use at our discretion.

Repeat offenders may be blocked from contributing, and The University of Melbourne accepts no liability for any loss arising out of or in connection with any such removal.
